Research Interests

I am interested in primate cognition, social behavior and the evolution of human behavior and psychology. For my diploma thesis I studied social learning in wild orangutans to gain insights into the evolution of traditions and culture. During my PhD I was interested in cooperation, studying the reciprocal exchange of food and other currencies among chimpanzees and bonobos and also did extensive literature reviews and comparative analyses on this subject. Both of these projects were supervised by Carel van Schaik and the latter also included an interdisciplinary collaboration with the University’s Research Priority Program in Ethics (www.ethik.uzh.ch/ufsp.html). During my first post doc I will further pursue these topics with research on human forager societies, working with Michael Gurven at the University of California in Santa Barbara.
