Research Interests

My research focuses on the interaction of science, art and society. Specifically, I am interested in the role and impact of media (papers, photos, 3d models etc.) in socio-historical networks with regard to the production process of scientific innovation or in formation of political opinions. Special attention is paid to the relationships between the iconography of media in the sciences and in the arts. Current work focuses on the innovation of three-dimensional anatomical models in the beginning of the 18th century. Other projects are in preparation:

  • "Circulating Reference". How the scientific publication of the Swiss anatomist Hans Bluntschli (1877-1962) on the Homunculus patagonicus Ameghino become an important reference work for the classification of early New World monkeys
  • "Reclaiming identity: Voyage and Fuegian repatriation"
  • "German cultural propaganda in Switzerland during WW1"
  • "Paul Klee and medicine"
