Evolution of Bird Families

We explore the evolution of family living and cooperative breeding in birds and use comparative studies to understand its evolution. We use Siberian Jays as a model system to test the proximate mechanisms of social decisions in a family living species.

Research themes

  • Influence of life-history and ecology on the evolution of families and cooperative breeding in birds
  • Comparative work to understand the evolutionary trajectories towards cooperation
  • Evolution of vocal antipredator communication in birds
  • Link between antipredator behaviour and the evolution of sociality
