General Info about the Department

At the Institut für Evolutionäre Anthropologie, we study human evolution through an interdisciplinary approach that connects primatology, anthropology, cognitive biology, and genetics. Combining fieldwork and experiments on humans, non-human primates, and marine mammals across four continents, we examine how culture, cognition, communication, and cooperation evolved. Comparative cross-species analyses of these four domains help us trace the evolutionary pathways that shaped our species.
