I'm passionate about understanding evolutionary forces such as natural selection and random genetic drift and how they drive patterns of genetic diversity and differentiation. I'm also particularly interested in technical aspects, i.e. in developing novel tools and methods required to tackle these and other evolutionary questions. The technical revolution of next-generation sequencing has opened up entirely new possibilities, which I was able to explore for my doctoral degree. Using a population genomics approach, I investigated the demographic history and local adaptations of orangutans - the most basal great apes to humans. More broadly, I’m interested in personalized medicine and forensic techniques, as well as in several other fields including biodiversity and conservation.
